Staff at a huge new leisure centre with a 25-metre swimming pool and a 100-station gym are gearing up to open its doors to the public in the new year. The new Neath Leisure Centre, located in the town centre, was initially expected to open earlier this year and then was set to open on January 9, 2023 - but management have now confirmed it will officially open on Monday, January 30, 2023.
The leisure centre will have facilities suitable for people of all ages and abilities and is part of a multi-million pound development funded by Neath Port Talbot Council that's been designed to "bring in new activities and investment" and attract more people into the town centre.
Construction work has been ongoing for the last two years, so people will be relieved to know the centre is taking shape and is almost ready to launch. For more stories about news and events in Neath, visit this page of our website.

Staff at the new centre, which replaces the current Neath Leisure Centre, say it will offer a "huge range of activities" which will ultimately help the community live a "happier, healthier lifestyle". Neath Leisure Centre will "cater for everyone from children learning to swim, adults looking to get fit with our gym, swim or classes, or simply individuals looking to unwind, it will have something for the whole family".
As well as a 25-metre six-lane swimming pool, there will also be a 'learner pool', a dedicated pool for adults and children to learn how to swim. Neath Leisure Centre will also house two studios, which will operate as the base for group fitness classes and as an 'activity space' for community use, and a 'health suite' with sauna, steam room and jacuzzi, as well as a café.
Chief executive of Celtic Leisure, which is operating Neath Leisure Centre, Richard Lewis said: "Celtic Leisure and our staff are super excited about the opening of our brand-new Neath Leisure Centre, which will be an incredible facility and a huge asset to the community.
"The leisure centre is the culmination of over two years of planning and building, and we cannot wait to welcome both new and existing customers through the doors of this fantastic facility."
The current Neath Leisure Centre, on Dyfed Road, will close on Saturday 31st December 2022.. You can get more Neath stories straight to your inbox by subscribing to our dedicated newsletter here.
