OpenAI is facing lawsuits from eight US states alleging that ChatGPT exposed children and other vulnerable users to dangerous interactions, including conversations said to encourage self-harm and violence. The actions, announced on Wednesday, 14 October, accuse the company of misleading consumers about the chatbot's safety.
Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska and West Virginia filed separate cases in their state courts. The states are seeking changes to how ChatGPT operates, alongside financial remedies, including penalties and the surrender of profits allegedly generated from young users.
