Online bidders go wild for Antiques Road Trip item

Online auction bidders went wild for one item on Antiques Road Trip.

Experts Natasha Raskin Sharp and Philip Serrell were on their final outing of their four nation tour, heading around Northern Ireland before going to auction in Wrexham, Wales.

Natasha spotted an elaborate tea set on a rainy visit to Stewartstown in County Tyrone. She said: "I can't even cope with it, I don't think I've ever described a tea service as 'heady' but that is a heady affair."

Initially priced at £120, Natasha said it was 'art nouveau'. She eventually bought it alongside a whiskey noggin for a grand total of £120.

The tea service was by Hungarian Zsolnay Majolia (BBC One)

In Belfast, with just shy of £150 left, Natasha picked up a Queen Elizabeth II escutcheon, which is a shield or shield-shaped emblem displaying a coat of arms, for just £5.

She said: "I like it's style. I like the festoons. It's very neo-classical and very, I don't know over the top."

Phil opted for a pair of early dumbbells, which were unpriced, but promised 'perfect bulging biceps' on the tin. He managed to get them for £35.

At auction in Wrexham, Philip's £20 silver condiment set sold for £50 online while Natasha's royal escutcheon, which she called "the strangest little thing", sold for £14.

Phil's last lot was his beloved mahogany table that reminded of his grandmother which he bought for £50 and sold for £170.

The final lot of the road trip was the 19th century Majolica lotus-pattern tea service, bought by Natasha for £80.

Online bidders went wild for the piece, with bids rolling through the hundreds.

Natasha was gobsmacked. She said: "Is this happening?! Is this a joke? This is the best thing that's ever happened to me."

The set eventually sold for £750, giving Natasha a profit of £670.
