One of Wales' Michelin-starred top restaurants is up for sale

A tiny Welsh restaurant which boasts a Michelin star and four AA Rosettes has gone on the market - but the head chef says it's "business as usual". Sosban & The Old Butchers in Menai bridge on Anglesey has just eight seats but has a long list of awards and certifications and has also been praised as one of just three Welsh restaurants to be named in La Liste’s guide to the world’s best restaurants 2022.

The eatery was opened by Bethan and Stephen Stevens in 2013. Stephen, the restaurant's head chef, previously worked at Gordon Ramsay’s three Michelin-starred Royal Hospital Road restaurant in London and for acclaimed chef Chris Chown at Plas Bodegroes on the Pen Llyn - and before that he worked as a plumber - you can read all about that here.

Amazingly, just three years after the couple opened their restaurant, it was awarded a Michelin star and praised for creating a memorable culinary experience on Angelsey, reports NorthWalesLive.

The couple have since separated and the business is now run single-handedly by Stephen. It's now been put up for sale for offers around £450,000.

The restaurant is housed in a Grade II listed building and Stephen hopes to remain as a tenant under the new owner, when the building sells.

He said: "It is business as usual here. Even if we did not remain at this site in the future I would look to relocate to another venue on Anglesey if another space was available."

The restaurant is fully booked until the end of the year and remains one of the hardest places to get a table in Wales - with a 10 page long waiting list.

Explaining what the sale includes, Christie & Co. estate agency said: "Sosban & The Old Butchers has a number of accolades including a Michelin Star and four AA Rosettes, along with a place in the Good Food Guide top 50. Our client has indicated that he would be keen to continue operating the restaurant and therefore, is prepared to enter into a lease agreement with a new owner providing an immediate and regular income. There is planning to convert the unused rooms into four en-suite bedrooms providing letting accommodation in this popular town.

"This Michelin Star restaurant is configured for eight diners over four tables, and also comprises; a kitchen, storage to the rear, lower ground cellar, and a rear entrance. Situated across both first and second floors, are six currently unmodernised rooms which have planning to covert in to four en-suite letting bedrooms, with a separate kitchen leading onto an outdoor terrace In addition, there is a kitchen and toilet located on the first floor mezzanine."
