Developers of the Once Human open-world survival video game has been busy this week facing a lot of work.

Developed by Starry Studio, a subsidiary of the Chinese company NetEase, the game was recently released for Windows via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the game's official website last July 9.

Starry Studios released a patch on Thursday, July 18, which unfortunately contained numerous bugs, causing the game to become faulty.

The patch has been causing issues such as erasing some players' items when they attempted to deposit them and damaging bases that players had spent a lot of time building.

It did not take long for Starry Studio to recognize that there was something wrong in the update that they released, which required an initial downtime for server maintenance lasting four hours.

"We have received feedback regarding item and territory losses after yesterday's maintenance," Starry Studio posted on their official X (formerly Twitter), Steam and Discord accounts.

"Both problems have been identified and are currently being resolved as quickly as possible," Starry Studio added.

The game developer has assured that they will provide additional compensation to the affected players.

"We sincerely apologize to the Metas who were affected and extend our gratitude to the Metas who reported these issues through the community and other channels, helping us identify the problems."

Starry Studio Urges to Leave Positive Reviews on Steam After Ratings Dive

Representatives from NetEase and Starry Studio allegedly requested that fans leave positive reviews on Steam for the game, according to journalist Ethan Gach of Kotaku.

These requests, which has since been deleted, were reportedly made on the Discord server for Once Human, which has over 560,000 members.

Ratings for the game have dropped to "Mixed," which is below the "Mostly Positive" territory of 70 percent approval.

Once Human Major Update Teased

Despite the rocky start, Starry Studio has teased the first major update for the multiplayer, which will include new PvP mode and allow battles between the Mayflies and Rosetta.

Additionally, a PvE mode featuring a new northern mountain region with additional monsters and challenges is also on the way.

While an exact release date hasn't been set, the update is expected to be available around September.

The game reached 131,894 concurrent users on Steam within its first 24 hours and has peaked at over 230,000 players since its launch.

Once Human is also scheduled to arrive on mobile later this year, though no specific timeline has been announced.
