Olly Murs says his fiancé saw him 'at his worst' during struggle he kept secret

The Voice UK star Olly Murs has revealed that his fiance saw him "at his worst" following the death of his friend Caroline Flack. The singer, who shot to fame on 2009's X Factor, opened up about how his bodybuilder and fitness model Amelia, 30, has supported him through some of the darkest, most challenging times in his life.

The 38-year-old star has told of how he and Amelia, who he'd met at a gym in 2019, had been on holiday in Bali when the devastating news broke about the Love Island presenter. Followed by the onset of this country's first national Covid lockdown, Olly said, "It was a f**ked-up time. Amelia saw me at my worst, at my lowest, proper bad."

However, the pair being isolated together at Olly's home in Essex would lead to him popping the question 16 months later. And since then, he added, Amelia has helped him get his life back on track.

In February this year, for example, she secretly nursed him back to health following emergency knee surgery after a torn ligament left him unable to walk. "For 12 weeks I was sat in a chair staring at four walls with crutches and Amelia having to help me to the toilet and get me in the shower," he said.

"I wasn't in a good place. I had a lot of negativity about my career and whether I’d be able to perform again." Olly added that he had to train hard in order to make it up the secluded cliff in Cornwall where he'd eventually propose.

"I managed it up the cliff and got down on one knee, but getting up was horrible. Amelia had to help me."

Olly said the experience made him value his health and was the catalyst for his newfound sobriety and fitness regime. Confessing to having experienced insecurity about his early stardom, he added that he's now in a good place mentally and at a stage where he's thinking about starting a family, reports The Mirror.

"It makes you appreciate things much more," he said. "I want to be a healthy dad, I want to have children.

"I don’t want to be hobbling on a stick – I don’t want that to be me." The couple are yet to set a date to walk down the aisle but they’ve decided it'll be sometime next year and are currently scouting for venues.
