Olly Murs says Caroline Flack was 'with him' during filming for new ITV show as he opens up on crippling grief

Olly Murs says Caroline Flack was 'with him' during filming for new Saturday night show as he opens up on crippling grief

He has opened up on his grief almost two years on from Caroline Flack's death.

The singer, who was a close friend of the TV presenter, said he still thinks about her every day.

Caroline died by suicide on February 15, 2020 at the age of 40.

Olly and Caroline worked together on The Xtra Factor before stepping up to the main show for one series.

Speaking to the Daily Star, Olly said: "God bless Caroline. I miss her every day and I think about her every day. I think about what I could have done to change things, what I could have said.

"There are all sorts of questions I ask myself every day. It's always difficult."

He added: "But there’s nothing I can do to bring her back. All I can do is keep living and keep her in my thoughts."

Olly also said he never experienced "that level of grief" before.

"Luckily I’ve got a great girlfriend, a great family and I’ve got friends that have been through grief as well. The important thing is to talk about it.

"I’ve taken a lot of comfort in her mum and her friends, too. As and when we speak, it’s nice to be around people that loved her just as much as I did."

Olly is set to return to TV screens at the weekend.

The pop star will be the host of ITV's latest entertainment show, Starstruck, which begins on Saturday night (February 12).

The programme will see members of the public transform into their favourite musical performers with Jason Manford, Beverley Knight, Sheridan Smith, and Adam Lambert on the panel.

But there will still be a tinge of sadness for Olly.

"The last time I did a Saturday night TV show was with Caroline," he told the Daily Star. "I avoided hosting a show for quite a few years, so this is a big moment for me.

"When we filmed the pilot, it felt strange. It was weird for me to be on my own. It was weird not having someone next to me.

"But Caroline was definitely with me."
