Olivia Wilde’s romantic life continues to make headlines as her former partner Jason Sudeikis inadvertently served her with legal papers live on stage.
It comes months after the pair announced their split, ending their engagement.
Wilde, 38, is currently promoting her upcoming movie Don’t Worry Darling, which will star Midsommer’s Florence Pugh, 26, and Harry Styles, 28.
Harry has also been making headlines for his whirlwind romance with Olivia over the last year.
The pair first met on the set of her new movie and appeared to hit it off immediately.
Wilde, who can also be seen in movies such as Her and Tron: Legacy, has taken to the director's chair in recent years.
She previously directed the critically praised Booksmart in 2019.
Wilde has two children with her former partner, eight-year-old Daisy and Otis, five, and it seems they have been caught in the middle of the highly publicised split.
Why did Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis split up?
Despite the dramatic incident on stage with Sudeikis serving her papers, it appears their split was an amicable one.
According to a source speaking to US Weekly, they’ve been separated for months "and there really is no drama. They’re handling this like adults".
“It’s all about coparenting their kids, Daisy and Otis. That’s the priority for them.”
The outlet confirmed their split in November 2021.
They had been together for nine years and got engaged in 2012.
According to the source, the couple were apart a lot on other sides of the USA.
They continued: “They’re both successful in their own right and have multiple projects in the works. No one expects any big money grab or custody battle.
“Olivia has a very promising directing and producing career and Jason has films lined up.
“Of course, there were arguments and fights over career decisions and where to live.
The couple were bicoastal but Jason loved living in New York and Olivia, who was born in NYC, was leaning more toward Los Angeles.
“She was also busier than him at times, which was difficult at times. They butted heads on many occasions and decided it was best to go their separate ways.”
What happened with Olivia Wilde and the papers?
While on stage on CinemaCon 2022 in Las Vegas, Wilde was given an envelope during a press conference for Don’t Worry Darling.
She was seen opening the letter that was widely reported to be custody papers from her ex, Sudeikis.
According to Variety, the Ted Lasso star had no prior knowledge of when or where the papers would be delivered as it is totally up to the serving company to do so.
A source told the publication: “Papers were drawn up to establish jurisdiction relating to the children of Ms Wilde and Mr Sudeikis.
“Mr Sudeikis had no prior knowledge of the time or place that the envelope would have been delivered as this would solely be up to the process service company involved and he would never condone her being served in such an inappropriate manner.”
A source later told the Daily Mail that the papers were in fact jurisdiction documents, not custody papers.
An unidentified man approached the stage, only for Wilde to ask, “Is this for me?”
The figure then threw the envelope on stage before the actress stopped to read them briefly.
Details of the custody arrangement remain private between the couple.
When did Olivia Wilde and Harry Styles meet?
Olivia and Harry met while filming Don’t Worry Darling.
Directed by Wilde, it is billed as a psychological thriller set in the 1950s.
It is currently set for a UK release date of September 23, 2022.
A source speaking to Us Weekly, said: “Harry and Olivia had chemistry almost instantaneously on set. It was only a matter of time before they got together.”
All this happened after Wilde and Sudeikis split, so Styles is not the reason for the breakup.
The new couple tried to keep their relationship quiet on set for a while, but it was only a matter of time before people caught on.
The insider explained: “Olivia and Harry were able to keep their relationship under wraps for a bit before it became public knowledge.
“They were very careful about it and even sleuthy at times, although the small group of people who were on set with them every day eventually figured it out.”
Filming for the upcoming film wrapped way back in February 2021 but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the release was pushed back until later this year.
Only the shoot was finished, Wilde then joined Styles in London and were even seen in some pubs around the city.
She was later seen with her kids and Harry’s mum, Anne, at various locations on the Love On Tour gig.
It seems as though the two are just as close as ever.
