Oliver Glasner confirms new injury blow for Crystal Palace as nightmare season continues

Rob Holding’s injury woes in his first season at Crystal Palace have continued after he suffered a fresh hamstring injury.

Holding joined Palace from Arsenal on transfer deadline day for £4million in the summer but has played just once this season, in the EFL Cup, and only recently returned after having ankle surgery.

Sunday’s 5-2 win over West Ham saw him named on the Palace bench for the first time in 20 games, but he will now be absent for Wednesday’s match against Newcastle and is also set to miss Saturday’s game at Fulham.

“Unfortunately, Rob Holding is injured again”, Palace manager Oliver Glasner said on Tuesday.

“Tough, because he was just back from an injury. We don’t know the degree, but it’s something with his hamstring. We don’t know how long it takes [to heal], but he will miss definitely tomorrow’s game, and I would think the game on Saturday against Fulham.

“[It’s sad] for all of us, and especially for him. He worked so hard and was so happy and smiling training in the team.

“It was his first time in the squad [against West Ham], but sometimes it happens, especially if your body is not used to team training. It happened. We have to accept it and learn from it so it doesn’t happen again.

“That’s bad news, but all the other players are fit”, said Glasner, who has Adam Wharton available for the Newcastle match despite initial fears the 20-year-old might be set for a period out after a knock forced him off against West Ham.
