Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has revealed that Jean-Philippe Mateta could be sold this month if the “price is right” and the player wants to leave.
Mateta has been linked with a move away from south London in recent months, with the likes of Manchester United previously said to be interested, and Glasner admitted in a revealing press conference on Friday that the striker could depart Selhurst Park in January.
Glasner had already told reporters ahead of Saturday’s trip to Sunderland that captain Marc Guehi was in the “final stages” of completing a move to Manchester City, as well as announcing that he himself would be leaving Palace when his contract expires in the summer.
“It’s the same [as Guehi],” Glasner replied when asked about Mateta’s future amid links to Juventus this week.
“There will be a price that Crystal Palace [accept], with 18 months left on his contract. We’d do the deal, if JP wants. If nobody pays that price, then he will stay.”
Glasner revealed that he had told Palace chairman Steve Parish back in October that he “wants a new challenge”, before insisting that his decision to depart at the end of the season had nothing to do with the summer transfer window or Guehi’s sale.
The Mateta revelation follows previous reports suggesting that he has always wanted to play for a Serie A club, and Sky Sports claimed that Juventus had made an enquiry as they search for a replacement for Dusan Vlahovic.
Mateta, 28, has played 21 games in the Premier League so far this term, scoring eight goals. In the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons, he struck 16 and 14 times respectively.
The Frenchman also earned his first senior international call-up in October, making his debut for Les Bleus in a 3-0 win over Azerbaijan in a World Cup qualifier. Three days later, he scored his first France goal in a draw with Iceland.
