Oleksandr Zinchenko sends Arsenal message after fan recognition ahead of Odegaard and Nketiah

Oleksandr Zinchenko has been voted as Arsenal's player of the month for January. The Ukrainian international wins his first award since joining the Gunners in the summer transfer window.

He polled 48% of the votes to claim the award, with Eddie Nketiah coming in second place and Martin Odegaard third. A hugely successful month for Zinchenko, as he played a major part in helping Arsenal to stay unbeaten in the league during January.

As well as being an important presence in Arteta's backline with 16 recoveries and two interceptions during his five appearances, he was also an influence in attack by making 232 successful passes, giving him an accuracy of 87%. He played a key role in the Gunners' winning goal against Manchester United, pulling the ball back for Odegaard, whose shot was touched in by Nketiah.

Arsenal were on the hunt for a new left-back ahead of the Premier League campaign in the summer transfer window. It was an area of weakness last season, and Edu had to solve the issue in the transfer market.

He did this by signing Zinchenko from Manchester City for a reported £30million fee. The Ukrainian has been exceptional since coming into Arteta's side. And this has now been highlighted by the fact that he was rewarded with the player of the month for January.

After winning the award, Zinchenko sent a message to Arsenal fans on the club's Twitter account, stating: "Hey guys, I wanted to say thanks for two things: voting me for player of the month, and also for all support throughout the season. Let's fight to the very, very end. Come on you Gooners!"
