The oldest veteran of the Royal Scots regiment who fought in rearguard defence during the Dunkirk evacuations, evaded a German massacre in 1940 and survived five years as a prisoner of war has died aged 104.
Born in Beeslack, Midlothian on August 12, 1918, Major John Errington served a lengthy career as a soldier, having been called up to serve in many historic battles.
Now survived by his two daughters and six grandchildren, John had been one of hundreds who fought at the battle of Le Paradis in Northern France back in 1940.
