Oktoberfest is a German tradition that has spread to the UK and across the world. It's an annual festival held in Munich, Bavaria, over a two-week period that attracts more than six million visitors from the end of September into October.
The festival originated in the early 19th century in celebration of the marriage of the crown prince of Bavaria, who later became King Louis I, to Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen. It typically sees large quantities of Steins of beer and Bratwurst consumed with many opting for the traditional lederhosen dress during the celebrations.
In Bristol, there are a number of different events being held throughout the month of October. We have rounded up some of them below, the first of which takes place today (Friday, October 7):

Hoptoberfest, Propyard’s craft beer festival
You can enjoy some of your favourite local beers in Bavarian stein form at Propyard’s Hoptoberfest. This ticketed two-day event combines some of the main players of Bristol’s brewing scene with live music and food stalls. Tickets are £35 each entitling you to unlimited beers and ciders from some of the best breweries in Bristol and across the South West. Read all about it here.

Motion’s Bingo Lingo
Motion is adding an Oktoberfest theme to two of its famous Bingo Lingo events this month. You’ll be seated on tables of eight to be in with the chance of winning some prizes while enjoying an ice cold beer. Tickets are available online from £10 plus a booking fee. The nightclub recommends booking ahead as the event is very popular and typically sells out.

Oktoberfest at Keynsham Cricket Club
If you’re looking for a traditional Oktoberfest without the fuss, there will be plenty of beer, sausages and live music at this event running on October 14 and 15. There will be two top bands as well as a selection of traditional beers and food to keep you entertained over the course of the weekend.
On the Friday night Keynsham Cricket Club will host the band 'Stupid' who will be performing whilst you're dancing in your lederhosen. On Saturday night there will be 'Attomic Buffalo' rocking the marquee. Tickets are available behind the bar, which opens every night from 6pm and 12pm on weekends.

Oktoberfest at Almondsbury Recreational Ground
Almondsbury Recreational Ground's annual Oktoberfest celebration is back. Attendees should expect beer, bratwurst and all the usual Bavarian fun. Oompah band Bierkeller Brass will also be in attendance again, slinging oompah versions of all your favourite hits.
Standard tickets are £15 per person, which covers your standard entry, while VIP tickets are £30 per person and include a free Stein of Beer and a delicious sausage platter.
