The NBA announced its Rookie of the Month winners for January and Oklahoma City Thunder guard Josh Giddey won his third straight award. Giddey won the October/November and December awards for the Western Conference.
In 14 January games, the 19-year-old averaged 13.3 points, 8.6 rebounds and 6.1 assists. Per Thunder PR, Giddey becomes the first player in Thunder history to win the award three times.
Giddey was drafted sixth overall in the 2021 NBA Draft by the Thunder and leads all rookies in total assists and is second in total rebounds behind Evan Mobley.
When asked about individual awards and statistical accomplishments throughout the season, Giddey has continuously stated that he cares more about winning than any individual feat. While it’s nice to see the rookie guard be so humbled, his impressive rookie campaign should still be acknowledged.
Giddey is currently averaging 11.6 points, 7.6 rebounds and 6.1 assists in 44 games this season.
