NAGPUR: India's first world champion in an individual archery event, Ojas Pravin Deotale, is now Nagpur's first sportsperson to win an Asian Games medal after he created history on Wednesday by clinching a gold in the mixed team compound event at Hangzhou.
The 21-year-old city boy paired up with Jyothi Vennam Surekha and surprised archery powerhouse South Korea to win the first archery gold for India in the 19th edition of the Games. In the gold-medal match of the mixed-team event, the Indian duo of Ojas and Jyothi defeated Korean duo of Chaewon So and Jaehoon Joo 159-158.
