Ohio State Women’s basketball team moves on to Sweet 16

In case you didn’t know, basketball is still being played in scarlet and gray. The Ohio State Women’s basketball team has moved on to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA women’s tournament.

The Buckeyes were the regular-season Big Ten champs before being ousted in the conference tournament by Indiana. Even with an earlier-than-expected exit from the Big Ten tournament, a No. 6 seed from the NCAA tournament committee seemed pretty low. And the Bucks proved that with a win over No. 3 seeded LSU on the Tiger’s home court by a score of 79-64 to advance.

Ohio State dominated LSU from the get-go. The Buckeyes would lead by as many as 24 points in the game before holding off a late push by the Tigers. Ohio State was paced by junior guard Jacy Sheldon who scored a team-high 23 points with senior Taylor Mikesell, an Oregon transfer adding 18.

The Buckeyes will now head to Spokane, Washington to take on the No. 2 seeded Texas Longhorns. The game will be played on Friday evening at 7 p.m. ET and televised on ESPN 2.
