Odisha: Hubby refuses Rs 5,000, ambulance driver abandons woman’s body in Jajpur

KENDRAPADA: A man’s refusal to pay ₹5,000 made the driver of an ambulance carrying his wife’s body abandon them midway on a bridge 2km away from their village in Jajpur district of Odisha late at night.

Hemant Mishra’s wife Chabi, 40, died in Cuttack on Saturday.

The driver of a private ambulance agreed to take the body to their village Amarabatipatna for ₹3,000, but on the way he started asking for ₹5,000 from the deceased’s husband.

When Hemant refused to do so, the driver dumped the body on a bridge 2km from the village and fled.

Stranded on NH-16, Hemant approached the locals to help him take his wife’s body to their village.

Soon Ramesh Chandra Prusti, sarpanch of Chatia gram panchayat, and some passers-by came to his rescue and helped him.
