A quiet fishing trip turned into a struggle when an octopus suddenly wrapped itself around a fisherman’s head and refused to let go. The fisherman was off the coast of Mexico when the creature latched onto his face. Video of the moment shows him pulling and clawing at the octopus as its tentacles spread across his head. For a second, it looks like he might get it off. Then the octopus grips him again. Its suckers cling to his skin as the fisherman fights to free himself. The creature covers his nose, mouth and eyes, making the situation look more frightening, as per a report by The UK Sun.
His friend is behind the camera as the whole thing unfolds. The octopus would not let go. The incident happened off the port town of Progreso, and the footage was published online on Wednesday. The fisherman keeps trying to pull the animal from his face. The octopus however, seems determined to stay where it is.
At one point, the man appears to get a room between himself and the creature.. The octopus quickly closes the gap and wraps itself around his head again.
Its tentacles stretch across his face while the suckers hold tightly to his skin. The fisherman eventually manages to break after several agonising seconds.
He bends over the side of the boat. Tears the octopus away. Of putting it back into the water he throws it onto the floor of the vessel. The man later said he felt as though he was suffocating while the octopus was attached to his face. The footage is hard to watch especially as the creature covers his mouth and nose. What started as a fishing trip suddenly became a fight to get the animal off his head. This was not the first time a fisherman has found himself in a strange battle with an octopus.
A similar octopus fight happened in the Philippines. Weeks earlier a fisherman in the Philippines had a frightening encounter of his own. Angler Jesser Cervantes was fishing off Puerto Princesa Island in Palawan when he reeled in an octopus.
