New Zealand Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters will lead a Kiwi delegation to Solomon Islands and Nauru next week.

The fresh Pacific mission, which also takes in the New Zealand-aligned country of Niue, shows heightened interest in the region from Canberra and Wellington.

"We look forward to engaging with the political leaderships in Solomons, Nauru and Niue next week in the context of urgent development and strategic challenges," Mr Peters said.

"New Zealand's relationships in the Pacific are fundamental to our foreign policy and we are determined to continue strengthening them."

Mr Peters is expected to meet with the Solomon Islands prime minister Jeremiah Manele, who took office last month, and Nauru president David Adeang.

The Kiwi contingent includes Police and Emergency Management Minister Mark Mitchell as well as National, Labour and Greens MPs.
