Nursery faces prosecution over death of two-year-old girl who choked on her lunch

  • Hertsmere Borough Council has authorised a health and safety prosecution following the death of two-year-old Sadie Salt, who choked on a sausage at a Hertfordshire nursery.
  • Sadie was eating lunch alongside 25 other children at Mini Learners in Radlett on 12 November 2020 when the incident occurred, and she died in hospital two days later.
  • Her parents, Zoe and Adam Salt, welcomed the council's thorough investigation and stated they are looking to the inquest to provide long-awaited answers.
  • An inquest into the toddler's death was originally opened and adjourned in 2022.
  • Since the tragedy, Sadie's parents have campaigned to stop nurseries from serving high-risk foods, such as sausages and grapes, to children under the age of five.
