A NSW Police crackdown on organised crime has led to the seizure of a loaded firearm and ammunition in the wake of a spike in gangland shootings.
A 46-year-old man from Greenacre in southwest Sydney was arrested after he attempted to flee the scene as police were trying to execute a warrant to search his home.
Police allegedly located ammunition and a loaded firearm.
A second man, 44, was arrested at the same home and both were taken to Bankstown Police Station.
The older man was charged with possess ammunition without a permit or licence, and the younger man was charged with possess firearm in contravention of a firearms prohibition order and possess unauthorised firearm.
Both men were refused bail and will appear at Parramatta Bail Court on Sunday.
Taskforce Erebus, a multi-agency state and federal partnership, was established last week to investigate a spate of murders, shootings and other offences linked to gangs and organised crime.
So far it has arrested and charged multiple members and associates of outlaw motorcycle gangs including the Comancheros, Finks and Rebels.
