NSW parliament speaker Jonathan O'Dea has confirmed he will not recontest his seat at next year's state election.

Mr O'Dea has been an MP since 2007, representing the state seat of Davidson, and has been speaker of the Lower House since 2019.

"It has been an enormous privilege to represent the people of NSW alongside my parliamentary colleagues," he said in a statement on Monday.

He's the latest in a string of senior Liberal MPs who have opted to cut their political futures short ahead of the March 2023 state election.

The Liberal departure list includes Corrections Minister and Parramatta MP Geoff Lee, Customer Service Minister and Ryde MP Victor Dominello, Riverstone MP Kevin Conolly and Vaucluse MP Gabrielle Upton.

Infrastructure, Cities, and Active Transport Minister Rob Stokes, who holds the Liberal seat of Pittwater, said last month he was still weighing up whether or not to run again.

Premier Dominic Perrottet praised Mr O'Dea's distinguished political career.

"He has governed the parliamentary precinct with high integrity and capability, including effectively managing COVID-19 restrictions in the parliament during the pandemic, he said.

"On behalf of the NSW government and the NSW Liberal Party, I take this opportunity to thank Jonathan for his outstanding contribution and dedication over many years of service to communities across NSW and the Davidson electorate.
