A Newcastle man has been remanded in custody after being charged with murder. (Joel Carrett/AAP PHOTOS) (AAP)

A 27-year-old man has been charged with murder, accused of fatally assaulting another man at a Newcastle train station in the NSW Hunter region.

Police say officers from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District were called to Beresfield Train Station just before 6pm on Monday and found a critically injured 39-year-old man on the platform.
