Novo Nordisk said on Friday that India's drug regulator has approved its blockbuster obesity drug Wegovy for the treatment of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), a serious and progressive form of fatty liver disease.
The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has approved Wegovy's 2.4 mg semaglutide injection for the treatment of MASH, the Danish drugmaker said. The approval follows a recommendation by the CDSCO's Subject Expert Committee (SEC) on Endocrinology and Metabolism, which had cleared the drug for adults with noncirrhotic MASH with moderate to advanced liver fibrosis, at stages F2 to F3, during a meeting held on April 23, 2026.
