Novak Djokovic is one of just three players in the men’s and women’s top 100 who is unvaccinated.
During the saga surrounding the tennis legend's visa last week, the ATP released a statement revealing how many of their top stars had received the jab.
It read: “The ATP continues to strongly recommend vaccination for all players on the ATP Tour, which we believe is essential for our sport to navigate the pandemic.
“This is based on scientific evidence supporting the health benefits provided and to comply with global travel regulations, which we anticipate will become stricter over time.
“We are encouraged that 97 percent of the Top 100 players are vaccinated leading into this year’s Australian Open.”
It is reported that number has now risen to 98 per cent. According to The Telegraph, America’s Tennys Sandgren is now the only other unjabbed player in the men's top 100.
Meanwhile, it is reported only one female player in the WTA top 100 remains unvaccinated. It is not clear whether that player was in the Australian Open singles main draw when the tournament began on Monday.
Sandgren, the world number 94, explained his unvaccinated status is the reason behind him being unable to compete at the ongoing Australian Open.
Earlier this month Sandgren seemingly aimed a dig at Djokovic. When Tennis TV shared news of the 34-year-old’s original medical exemption—which was later revoked, twice—to their Instagram account, fellow American tennis player Tommy Paul commented and tagged Sandgren, asking if he was also going to Australia.
“Not quite the same pull,” the American replied, referencing the world No 1 and 20-time Major champion and legendary status.
However, Sandgren later defended Djokovic after the decision was made to deport him from Australia.
He wrote on social media: "You know when an 'icon of free choice' isn’t welcome in a western country, things have gone bat**** crazy.
"I wish I was there just so I could pull out. I guess solidarity is only cool when it comes with a check. If you think the sport tennis matters more than this issue - you are a f****** moron."
Djokovic’s woes may be set to continue as the French Open declared he needs to be vaccinated to participate, as well as the US Open.
Wimbledon meanwhile, provided no assurances that Djokovic will be allowed to play, even if unvaccinated sportspeople are able to compete and train in the UK.
