Nottingham's Victoria Centre launching Wall of Fame - and it's for shoppers as well as celebrities

Nottingham’s Victoria Centre is officially launching its 50th birthday celebrations by unveiling a Wall of Fame.

Local celebrities will appear, including actor Vicky McClure, YouTuber LadBaby, football pundit and One Show host Jermaine Jenas and boxer Carl Froch.

Paralympic athlete Richard Whitehead, Ru Paul’s Drag Race star Tia Kofi and comedian Sarah Keyworth are other Nottingham famous faces to feature, with more to be added in the coming weeks.

But you don't need to be famous to have your face on the interactive wall, which will launch at the shopping centre on Saturday, February 12.

Shoppers and employees are encouraged to take a picture using a selfie screen. The image will then be printed, with shoppers placing their polaroid-size picture on a grid on the wall.

Over the next few months, more than 14,000 faces will join together to reveal two secret giant pictures, marking 50 years of Victoria Centre.

Centre director, Nigel Wheatley, said: "2022 is a very special year for us as we celebrate 50 years in the heart of the city. Back in 1972, we were one of the first enclosed shopping centres in the UK and ever since then, we’ve welcomed millions of shoppers through our doors.

“As part of our celebrations, we’ve spent a lot of time collecting people’s memories of the centre, which will be used in special ways throughout the year.

"What’s become clear is that so many people have a connection with Victoria Centre, whether it’s working here, shopping with family or even meeting a loved one here for the first time – but it all boils down to people.

“That’s why we decided to start the celebrations with our Wall of Fame, highlighting all the faces that make Victoria Centre such a great place.

“For anyone unable to make it into the centre, you can still get involved by posting a selfie to Instagram or Twitter using #vcwalloffame, which we will then add it for you. We can’t wait for you to see what is unveiled when the wall is complete.”

The Wall of Fame will be located on the ground floor outside Tesco and is the first of a number of special events to mark the centre’s special birthday.
