Located next to the Nottingham Canal, Cleaver and Wake is a fine dining restaurant at Nottingham’s Island Quarter. It opened in October last year and, according to The Times, is one of the UK's best riverside restaurants and pubs.
Visitors at the restaurant can find a modern and elevated dining experience, with an emphasis on quality seasonal British ingredients. The restaurant is based on the first floor, above Binks Yard, at the development off London Road.
The Times put together a list of 31 of the UK’s best riverside restaurants and pubs. Amongst that list is Cleaver and Wake where MasterChef: The Professionals champion Laurence Henry is the chef patron.

Diners can find a menu with a wide variety of dishes which changes regularly as the seasons change to get the best produce. The menu showcases some of the most prime fish, shellfish, meat, poultry and vegetables to be found in the British Isles.
Tandoori monkfish, bbq squab pigeon and spiced cauliflower steak are just some of the mains you can find on the menu.
Also in the kitchen with Laurence Henry is head chef Hira Lal Thakur, who appeared on MasterChef: The Professionals in 2020. Hira grew up in a remote village north of Shimla where he developed a passion for food. He moved to the UK in 2013 and has since worked in some of Nottingham's top restaurants.
The Times wrote: “For canalside fine dining, head to this impressive red-brick building in Nottingham’s new Island Quarter development. Laurence Henry, a MasterChef: The Professionals champion, serves refined and beautifully presented dishes such as spiced crab salad with nashi pear and tandoori monkfish in an elegant, contemporary dining room with picture windows overlooking the water.”
