Alexis Stone, a well-known drag artist and influencer known for celebrity transformations and performance art, claims he’s the Jim Carrey impersonator at the Cesar Film Awards ceremony in Paris. A spokesperson for the Cesar Film Awards confirmed it was the real Carrey at the event, according to Variety.
After Carrey, 64, appeared at the 2026 César Awards to accept an honorary award, some social media users speculated that the person onstage wasn’t actually him, citing changes in his appearance, voice, and mannerisms, with some even suggesting, without evidence, that he could be a clone or impersonator.
Alexis Stone claims responsibility
Amid the online speculation over whether the person at the 2026 César Awards was really the Ace Ventura actor, Alexis Stone — who has impersonated Madonna, Kylie Jenner, and Lana Del Rey in the past — posted pictures of Carrey at the event on social media with the caption “Alexis Stone as Jim Carrey in Paris.”
Stone also shared an image showing what appeared to be a mask, teeth, and a wig resembling Carrey’s look.
After Stone shared the posts, some remained unconvinced, commenting, “I don’t believe you till you show us the process of the makeup and all the backstage… where is Jim?,” suggesting Carrey was replaced.
Another comment added, “Called it! I said ‘mask or clone’ because truly reminded me of a mask pulled tight lmfao. Awesome.” Meanwhile, others suggested Carrey possibly had light facial work done before the appearance,
On March 2, however, Gregory Caulier, the general delegate of the Cesar Awards, told Variety,
Jim Carrey’s visit has been planned since this summer. From the outset, he was extremely touched by the Academy’s invitation. Eight months of ongoing, constructive discussions. He worked on his speech in French for months, asking me about the exact pronunciation of certain words.”
Caulier added that Carrey attended the event with his partner, daughter, grandson, and a dozen close friends and relatives. His longtime publicist was also by his side, along with longtime collaborator Michel Gondry — who has worked with him on a film and two series — and the two were said to be thrilled to reunite.
“For me, it’s a non-issue. I just remember his generosity, his kindness, his benevolence, his elegance,” Caulier added.
At the same time, David Malinowski, a prosthetics expert, told LADBible, “He is absolutely not wearing a mask,” referring to Carrey at the ceremony. “In my expert, professional opinion, that’s 100% Jim Carrey, and Jim Carrey is not wearing any prosthetics either.” Malinowski also suggested Stone’s image of the supposed mask could be AI-generated.
Jim Carrey César Awards 2026: “Very touched”
At the ceremony, Carrey accepted an honorary César Award recognizing his decades-long career in comedy and film. Speaking partly in French, he thanked the Académie des Arts et Techniques du Cinéma and reflected on his unconventional path in Hollywood. “I’m very touched,” Carrey said, according to Variety. “France has always been very kind to me.” He joked about his career longevity, adding, “I left Hollywood, but Hollywood didn’t leave me,” before striking a more reflective tone.
Carrey also spoke about stepping back from acting in recent years, reiterating comments he has made since promoting Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in 2022. “I have enough. I’ve done enough. I am enough,” he previously told reporters about retiring from Hollywood filmmaking.
At the César ceremony, he emphasized gratitude over ambition, telling the audience he was focused on painting and personal fulfillment rather than chasing roles. His remarks underscored his continued distance from the Hollywood spotlight even as he accepted one of France’s highest film honors.
