A man wanted for a firearms offence was found asleep on a sofa when police searched a vacant Clifton house. Officers from Clifton Neighbourhood Policing Team attended the property in Kipling Close, Clifton, at around 8am on Tuesday, July 4.
They were alerted by housing officers from Nottingham City Council who noticed people were inside the address when they went to change the locks. The property should have been empty as a previous occupant had recently been provided with alternative accommodation.
When police entered the house they found a man wrapped in a blanket who they recognised as a suspect wanted for possessing a gun during a previous incident in Clifton. A victim had reported being threatened by a man armed with the weapon on 14 June 2023 at an address in Lanthwaite Close.

The 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm. Inspector Steve Dalby, neighbourhood inspector for City South, said: “We work closely with colleagues in the city council’s housing team to tackle a range of different issues.
“This close relationship allows us to address problems with homes being used as drug dens and offenders who think they can take over the home of a vulnerable person, known as ‘cuckooing’, and use this property for their own gain.
“Drugs are closely linked to so many other crimes including knife crime, burglary, shoplifting and vehicle crime. They also attract antisocial behaviour to an area and can cause misery for people living in the neighbourhood.
“In this case officers have acted on information from housing teams to search a property and detain a man wanted in relation to a very serious offence.
“Our investigation remains ongoing into this incident. Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting incident number 144 of 14 June 2023, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.”
