Nottingham Forest have been handed a blow in their bid to bolster their ranks even further before the transfer window closes next week.
The Reds had been linked with Atletico Madrid left-back Renan Lodi this week. They had "begun talks" with the Spanish club over a potential loan deal, according to football reporter Jacque Talbot.
However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has since quelled any optimism over a deal. He tweeted that there is "no way" for a loan to happen "as things stand".

That may mean that a deal could be resurrected in the future if the situation changes, but that is probably not going to happen before the window closes a week from today, on 1 September.
Romano added that Atletico "rejected" an approach from Manchester City in July. The Spanish outfit are unlikely to loan out one of their most sellable assets for the season.
Despite bringing in 16 new recruits already, 15 of whom have arrived on permanent deals, Forest are still trying to get more bodies in before deadline day.
Harry Toffolo and Omar Richards had already been brought in from Huddersfield Town and Bayern Munich respectively to play at left wing-back in Steve Cooper's 3-5-2 formation. Richards, though, is currently out injured with a hairline fracture and is not scheduled to return to action for another month.
Lodi is predominantly a full-back but also can play further up the wing, meaning he could slot into Cooper's system with relative ease. The Brazilian international, who won La Liga in 2021 and scored against Man United in the Champions League last season, would bring great experience to the squad despite only being 24 years of age.
