Nottingham Forest transfer blow as Premier League move confirmed

Nottingham Forest won’t be signing left-back Pervis Estupinan this summer, after it was confirmed that the defender has signed for Brighton and Hove Albion.

Forest are on the lookout for another left-back before the end of the summer transfer window. The Reds were closing in on a deal for Real Betis’ Alex Moreno, only for the player to opt to turn down a move to the City Ground and stay with the Spanish club.

That meant Steve Cooper looking elsewhere for potential targets, with Estupinan being linked. Reports last week claimed that Forest had sent an enquiry to Villarreal over his availability this summer.

A number of other top clubs were credited with an interest in the 24-year-old, including Tottenham, Lyon and Nice. But Brighton have beaten off competition to complete the signing.

The Ecuador international has signed a five-year deal at the AMEX Stadium, joining the club for an undisclosed fee. Brighton head coach Graham Potter has outlined his excitement at the deal.

“We’re excited by what Pervis brings us and he fills a position to which we’ve been looking to add depth,” he told the club’s official website.

“In addition to his international experience, he has played for Villarreal in the Champions League and Europa League, as well as gaining plenty of experience in La Liga. We will help him to settle here in England, but we’re looking forward to working with him and seeing him in action in the Premier League.”
