Sunday’s Premier League clash at the City Ground will be a celebration of the 50th anniversary of Nottingham Forest’s crest.
The Reds will mark the half-century of their iconic badge and the man who created it, David Lewis, at this weekend’s game against Manchester United. And chairman Nicholas Randall KC has hailed Lewis’ important contribution in the club’s history.
“We owe David great thanks and appreciation for his remarkable and enduring contribution to Nottingham Forest,” he said. “His iconic design will be forever woven into the rich history of the club and we are delighted that David will be joining us for this Sunday’s Premier League fixture against Manchester United so that we may express our gratitude to him in person.”

Lewis has helped the club to create a special commemorative crest to mark the milestone. It will be used on the front cover of Sunday’s match programme, while Lewis will be presented with a special thank you gift from the club on the pitch at half-time. Forest have also teamed up with Art of Football to release a special edition hoodie to celebrate the anniversary.
Lewis’ design was a result of him entering a competition launched by the Nottingham Post in February 1973, with the challenge to create a new crest for the club. More than 800 entries were submitted from far and wide.
In the April of that year, Lewis was declared the winner, taking home a prize of £25. He went on to work with Ken Smales, club secretary at the time, to refine the design until it became the one which adorns the Reds’ shirts to this day.
