Nottingham Forest take on Premier League rivals in transfer tussle as reunion eyed

Nottingham Forest are interested in a summer transfer for Wolfsburg forward Omar Marmoush, and could rival fellow Premier League side Brentford for his signature, according to reports in Germany.

The 23-year-old scored three goals and provided five assists during a loan spell with Bundesliga side Stuttgart last season, where he played alongside newest Forest recruit Orel Mangala. He returned to Wolfsburg this summer and has already started, and scored a stoppage time winner in the first round of the DFB-Pokal Cup tie this season.

According to German outlet Kicker, via fussballtransfers , Forest are among the clubs showing an interest in the forward. But they face competition from Brentford and La Liga side Espanyol.

In fact, it is claimed the Bees have already had an offer for the player rebuffed in the transfer window. It is not disclosed how much the bid may have been.

Marmoush has just one year remaining on his contract at Wolfsburg, but the club are keen to extend that. Manager Jorg Schmadtke confirmed they are in contact with the player’s agent.

Forest have already added to their attacking options in the summer window with Taiwo Awoniyi arriving from Bundesliga side Union Berlin. Attacking midfielder Jesse Lingard has also joined on a free transfer from Manchester United.

But the Reds could be on the lookout for more fire power after striker Keinan Davis returned to parent club Aston Villa following a loan move to the City Ground last season. Veteran striker Lewis Grabban has also left the club after the expiry of his contract.

Any move for Marmoush would see him reunited with former Stuttgart midfielder Mangala. The Belgian international’s transfer to the City Ground was confirmed over the weekend with the player putting pen to paper on a long-term deal.
