Nottingham Forest response sent as Steve Cooper emerges as potential Gareth Southgate successor

Nottingham Forest supporters have responded after Steve Cooper emerged as a potential candidate to take over as England boss, should Gareth Southgate step down from the job.

Since England's elimination from the World Cup quarter-final against France, there have been doubts over Southgate's future. Olivier Giroud scored the winning goal as Harry Kane missed the chance to equalise from the penalty spot.

Speaking after the game, the Three Lions manager said he needed time to make a decision over his future. "I want to make the right decision either way because it has to be the right one to go again, or the right one not to go again and I don't think tonight [Saturday] is the time to make a decision like that," he said. "Neither are the next few days really."

In the SkyBet odds, Cooper has been placed at 16/1 to take over, while Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers is placed at 8/1, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe at 10/1 and Chelsea manager Graham Potter at 12/1.

Here is how the Forest faithful have responded...

Matthew Bailey: "No chance Cooper would succeed GS! More likely to be next choice for Wales but both can keep their hands off for now!"

Simeon Hawkins: "Wales maybe, but it’s a massive maybe."

Russell Berridge: "No chance, go away FA."

Keith Cutts: "Don't think there's any rush to replace Southgate yet he is signed up to the Euro's so I think they will wait to see how Cooper gets on in the Premiership for a couple of seasons so they've got plenty of time on there hands to make a decision."

Simon Lomax: "Potter will be out of a job soon… he’s higher up the list."

Geoffrey Oldham: "If Brian not good enough then he's certainly not."

Paula Richmond: "Hope not. He's got a job to do at Nottingham Forest, end of."

DaveNffc: "He should be Wales manager."

Michele Tideswell: "Nooooo."

Terry Ginn: "No chance."

David Healey: "No, he's a red. Not likely."

Roger Lecouteur: "Don't go - Reds need you more."

Martin Norton: "This will never happen in my lifetime."

Patrick Smith: "More chance of Surridge starting a game!."

Charlie Cartwright: "Clough was the greatest manager, England never had!"
