Nottingham Forest making 'quality' signing as transfer stance outlined

Dancing in the dressing room and injured players joining in the celebrations show just how strong Nottingham Forest’s team spirit is, according to Serge Aurier.

After the challenges which came with a summer overhaul and adapting to life in the Premier League, the Reds are starting to build some momentum. Saturday’s victory over Leicester City made it eight unbeaten at the City Ground in all competitions and lifted them to 13th in the table.

Injured duo Jesse Lingard and Cheikhou Kouyate were both watching on at the weekend. And Emmanuel Dennis had posted a video on Instagram of the former throwing some shapes with Aurier and Morgan Gibbs-White in the changing room after Wolverhampton Wanderers had been beaten in the Carabao Cup last Wednesday night.

Fee discussed

Palmeiras boss Abel Ferreira insists Nottingham Forest have paid £18 million to sign Danilo, whose move to the City Ground was confirmed on Monday evening.

The Reds reached an agreement with the Brazilian side to sign the 21-year-old last week, and he arrived on Trentside over the weekend to complete his medical. Danilo posted an emotional farewell video on his social media, thanking Palmeiras for his five years at the club.

As expected, he was absent from Palmeiras' goalless home draw against Sao Bento on Saturday, and Ferreira addressed his exit post-match. "They [Nottingham Forest] offered 20 million [euros] to sign Danilo," the Portuguese boss said. "You pay for quality. Last year, I said that if no one left, no one would arrive.

"As it turns out, someone of quality has to come in. And quality costs money. Of course, we have to chase reinforcements.

Transfer stance

Nottingham Forest are reportedly facing competition from Premier League sides to secure the signing of AS Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo.

The 23-year-old is being linked with a move to the City Ground after struggling to hit the same form he did last season for Jose Mourinho's side. Zaniolo is comfortable playing in different positions, having done so as an attacking midfielder, striker and right winger.

Despite his struggles, he is claimed to be attracting interest from Premier League sides Newcastle and West Ham. According to Italian outlet Voce Giallorossa, Roma are said to be "wondering about what they'll do with the player" amid interest.

It is claimed to be "no secret" that the Premier League trio are interested in his signing and the Italian side could "seriously consider" his sale if they receive an offer of around £18m-£22m.

Gibbs-White prediction

Morgan Gibbs-White will capture the attention England boss Gareth Southgate if he maintains his blistering form for Nottingham Forest.

That is the verdict of former Reds midfielder Lewis McGugan, who feels Gibbs-White is full of potential at the age of 22. The former Wolves man took his tally to four Premier League assists after setting up both goals in the 2-0 win over Leicester City as he combined with Brennan Johnson on each occasion.

Speaking on the Garibaldi Red podcast, McGugan said Gibbs-White should focus on Forest for now though when asked if he could be good enough to break into the England squad by the end of this year.

"He's just got to enjoy his football," he said. "Concentrate on churning out performances for Nottingham Forest. That's sometimes what we on the outside get wrong.
