Nottingham Forest player ratings: Low marks as Reds beaten by Blackpool on woeful afternoon
Nottingham Forest were knocked out of the FA Cup at the third round stage as they were thumped 4-1 by Championship Blackpool at Bloomfield Road.
With head coach Steve Cooper having named a completely different XI to the one which toppled Southampton in midweek, it was perhaps little surprise that the visitors took a while to get going. And they found themselves a goal down at the break.
Sloppy defending saw Marvin Ekpiteta poke home with 18 minutes gone, after CJ Hamilton caused problems down the left and a cross was not dealt with. The Reds mounted a response, though, and should at least have been on level terms by the interval.
Steve Cooper blasts 'unacceptable' Nottingham Forest display in woeful FA Cup defeat
Head coach Steve Cooper blasted Nottingham Forest’s performance as “unacceptable” as they were dumped out of the FA Cup by Blackpool.
The Reds were a goal down at the break at Bloomfield Road and were still in the game, having mounted a response to falling behind. But they spurned a glut of chances and collapsed in a woeful second half which saw the hosts ease into the fourth round with a 4-1 win.
Cooper had changed his full line-up after Wednesday night’s victory over Southampton, with some players given a rare opportunity to impress from the start. But few made the most of that, leaving the Forest boss with some harsh words after the full-time whistle.
Nottingham Forest make transfer decision on attacker in high demand
Nottingham Forest are going to let one of their young prospects head out on loan in the January transfer window amid a flurry of interest from other clubs, it has been reported.
The club have decided that Ateef Konate will be loaned out in order to get more game time. Stoke City and Bristol City are 'interested' in making a deal happen, according to The Athletic's David Ornstein.
Other Championship clubs are also interested in signing the 21-year-old on a temporary basis, while there are offers on the table from clubs in League One. Danish outfit OB Odense are also said to have put in an offer this month.
Blackpool boss makes 'fortunate' claim after thrashing Nottingham Forest
Blackpool manager Michael Appleton says thrashing Nottingham Forest 4-1 in the FA Cup was a "fantastic day" in his career.
The Championship strugglers were disciplined and performed well as they put four past Steve Cooper's Reds and advanced to the fourth round of the FA Cup. Ryan Yates scored Forest's only goal of the game, a consolation after the home side went four up.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, Appleton said Saturday was one of several "fantastic" FA Cup days in his career, and was full of praise for the way his players "rode the storm" to beat Forest at Bloomfield Road.
