Nottingham Forest have key advantage in £20m transfer race

Nottingham Forest will be preparing for life in the Premier League next season as potential transfer targets begin to emerge for Steve Cooper and his backroom staff.

After sealing their place back amongst England’s elite at the weekend, the Forest manager will now look to build a squad capable of competing in the division. One of the names to be linked with a move to the City Ground is Morgan Gibbs-White. Reports this week suggest that Forest are eyeing a potential move for the 22-year-old this summer.

It is said that any move could take a fee of around £20 million to persuade Wolves to sell. Gibbs-White has played under Cooper on two previous occasions in his career, with the England U17s and on loan with Swansea City last season.

The Wolves man has spent the season on loan with Sheffield United, scoring and providing an assist in the two-legged play-off semi-final against Forest earlier this month. Speaking ahead of the second semi-final, the player himself spoke of his relationship with the Forest boss.

“Steve and I have always had a good relationship,” Gibbs-White told The Star. “He did unbelievable things for me in the World Cup with England and when he was at Swansea, he gave me my chance when I went on loan there."

Other clubs, including Southampton, have also been linked with the player ahead of the summer transfer window. But Forest could hold the ace in the pack with Cooper, as well as now being able to offer Premier League football next season.
