Nottingham Forest face West Ham transfer battle for World Cup star

Nottingham Forest are interested in signing Florentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat but face competition from West Ham, it is claimed.

The 26-year-old played a key role in the Italian side reaching the UEFA Conference League final where they finished runners-up to the Hammers. He played all but two matches from the group stages to the final in Prague.

Amrabat was also a key player for his country Morocco as they stunned the football world at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, knocking out Spain and Portugal to become the first African country to reach the semi-finals. They finished the tournament in fourth place.

And Italian news site Tuttomercatoweb claim that Forest "like" the defensive midfielder but they are not the only one's to have shown interest. Spanish giants Barcelona are also credited as being interested with the player's preference said to be for a move to Spain.

However, it is claimed that Barca are only prepared to sign him on loan and are not willing to pay the reported €30million (£26million) asking price for him. Atletico Madrid are also said to be interested but are not advanced meaning a move to the Premier League "cannot be ruled out."

West Ham are claimed to be interested as they prepare for life after midfielder Declan Rice. The England international is set to join Arsenal in a mega-money move this summer.

But Forest are also likely to need reinforcements in the middle of the park with Jonjo Shelvey facing an uncertain future at the City Ground. A defensive midfielder like Amrabat would certainly add some steel to the Reds team as they look forward to another campaign in the top-flight next season. .
