Not Wood, Not Plastic, Kris Jenner's Patio Proves Concrete is The Insider Secret for Chic and Modern Outdoor Furniture

Kris jenner on a gray background.

If you thought 'concrete' and 'chic' were antonyms, it might be time to reconsider. We've caught a glimpse of Kris Jenner's Hidden Hills patio, and it shows how the unexpected material can be used to create an incredibly stylish backyard.

After purchasing the Los Angeles property in 2010, Kris worked with designers Waldo Fernandez and Tommy Clements to transform the Tuscan-style property into a bold, modern masterpiece where every detail feels considered – including the back patio.

In the midst of California-appropriate greenery, Kris uses two concrete chairs (we found the exact match here at 1stDibs) and a concrete coffee table to anchor the space. Though it sounds like it could look too monochromatic, the finished product is elegant and welcoming.

Homes & Gardens spoke with designers to get to the bottom of why Kris's outdoor furniture looks so good, and how we can recreate the look in our own backyards. We also curated an edit of our favorite concrete pieces for replicating the style. Let's begin with a peek into the socialite's home.

Mid-Century Modern Pick

For the ultimate designer pick, these gorgeous looped concrete seats are an exact match to the ones we see in Kris Jenner's backyard. They prove that concrete can be delicate and sculptural.

Tapered Shape

There is nothing better than a miniature accent table for bringing a new material to your patio design, and this stylish tapered one is an excellent example. I love the idea of pairing it with textile-covered outdoor sofas for a cool contrast.

Lightweight

These large round planters are ideal for creating texture on your patio, and look absolutely stunning with a bright green plant inside. Used with wood, they would have a cool, mid-century modern look.

Stylish

The coffee table is the heart and soul of a patio, and this pretty gray Anthro one ensures ultimate style. It's perfect for long nights outside under twinkle lights.

Aged Look

If you want to try out the concrete look but aren't ready to invest in furniture, a small garden statue is the perfect place to start. This pretty pagoda would look gorgeous styled amongst your flowers.

Great Deal

These lightweight stools would be gorgeous gathered around a firepit on a cool autumn night. Their sharp angles feel extra industrial chic.

According to the experts, part of what makes concrete outdoor furniture beautiful is the juxtaposition of hardness and softness. We see this in Kris's backyard with the beautiful curved chairs. 'These concrete pieces have clean lines of a modern piece but with a pretty patina that gives them a nice finish,' explains landscape designer Andrea Scharff.

These outdoor chairs also offer an aesthetic of practicality, which feels instantly cool and laid-back. Andrea advises: 'The beauty of these pieces lies in the fact that they are hardy and durable. They don’t require much maintenance, withstand the elements, and look polished and great. They are straightforward and not fussy.'

Overall, this attention to detail from subtle curves, patina, and intentional design taps into the biggest outdoor design trends we're seeing this year. If you like Kris Jenner's backyard, now is a great time to invest in concrete pieces.

Kayli Rowsell, Design Manager at Arteriors, explains: 'This year, outdoor furnishing is all about blurring the lines between indoor comfort and outdoor resilience. We’re seeing a shift towards pieces that feel as purposeful and refined as interior furniture ones, but which are engineered for weather and longevity. Layered seating arrangements, modular designs that adapt to changing needs, and sculptural silhouettes with utility at their core are gaining real traction. Comfort-led design is steering the conversation, dominated by spaces that feel curated rather than staged.'
