Picking up a prescription from the surgery, I noticed some leaflets on hearing loss (‘Any embarrassment is in your head!’: How hearing aids boost your health and happiness, 13 November; Letters, 14 November). Aware that I’d been in denial, I phoned and got an appointment within a fortnight. The audiologist tested me, selected suitable aids and fitted them. I left the building with much better hearing, an instruction book, two packs of spare batteries and a follow-up date. No one asked me for as much as a penny piece.

• “The dominance of English-language pop music appears to be waning,” says Shain Shapiro (From K-pop to reggaeton, English language music no longer reigns supreme, 12 November). I’m not so sure: the 10 biggest tracks of 2022 in the UK were all by British artists – the first time this has happened in the history of the charts.

• In the picture of the cabinet meeting accompanying Rafael Behr’s article, the ministers seem to have name cards in front of them (David Cameron’s Tory party is dead – and its ghost can’t save Rishi Sunak, 15 November).
