A new weather warning covering the whole of Northern Ireland has been issued by the Met Office.

It added: "Heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to break out on Monday afternoon. 15 to 20 mm of rain may fall in less than an hour, with perhaps up to 25 mm in a few places, leading to some surface water flooding.

"Lightning strikes may be an additional hazard. Showers and thunderstorms will steadily die out on Monday evening."

For Monday's weather forecast, the Met Office said: "A cloudy start with showery rain, heavy in places, then becoming dry and bright for a while. A mixture of sunny spells and scattered heavy showers in the afternoon. Maximum temperature 23C.

"A bright evening with scattered heavy showers dying out. Dry overnight with clear spells but some patchy low cloud developing on the hills. A warm night. Minimum temperature 13C."

And for Tuesday, the forecaster added: "A dry and bright morning. Cloud increasing in the afternoon with showers developing. Feeling rather warm. Maximum temperature 21C."

Sunny spells and heavy showers are expected on Wednesday.

It's predicted to be a mainly dry day on Thursday with bright or sunny spells, with rain spreading east on Friday and feeling warm, according to the Met Office.
