One North Carolina shopper’s frustrating experience at a local Walmart has gained significant traction online. MariClare MacLamroc, known as @_mariclaremaclamroc_ on TikTok, shared a video where she discovers mold inside a pre-assembled snack pack intended for her daughter, Scarlett. The video has reached over 4.2 million views and secured more than 203,000 likes.
In the post, MacLamroc explains that she opened the snack pack for her daughter during their shopping trip. She immediately expresses her frustration, stating, “I just came into Walmart, and I opened this up for Scarlett to eat, and it literally has f—ing mold on it. I haven’t even purchased this yet, checked out, or left the f—ing store, and it already has mold on it. I just noticed that these apples are absolutely f—ing disgusting looking, too.”
The discovery did not stop with just one container. Upon further inspection of the surrounding shelf space, she found similar issues with multiple snack packs of the same brand. Then she made a baffling discovery, “So this isn’t even supposed to be expired, but we’re supposed to be serving this to our kids with f—ing mold on it? And what the f— is in the gummies? What is that?”
Well, I wouldn’t want to feed a kid dodgy food either
After examining the shelf, she decided against purchasing any of the items and eventually tossed them back into the refrigerated section. She told her audience that she intends to inform store employees about the state of the inventory. Even after she found a pack that looked normal, “now I don’t even want to give her any of this s— because it had mold on it.”
The reaction to the video has been quite polarized. Some viewers agree that the situation was problematic, but a large majority criticized the way MacLamroc handled the discovery. Many commenters were focused on one specific detail: As Summer
asked, “why did you open it in the store when you haven’t paid.”
Many others expressed concern about her volume and language. Esmeralda C Martínez wrote, “Girl why are you yelling we can hear you ! Watch your mouth in front of ur kid.” Similar sentiments were shared by theatreisthehuzz, who noted, “poor scarlett’s i grew up with parents who curse and i would always think they were mad at me in front of ur kid is not ok.”
A few users were critical about her choice in food for her kid. grayson
summarized it when they suggested that preparing fresh fruit at home would be a better alternative to buying pre-packaged snacks.

This incident brings attention to how retailers manage perishable goods. According to Walmart, they aim to maintain clean facilities and use routine sanitation schedules. Their internal training emphasizes understanding food quality, maintaining proper temperature control, and managing product inventory. When items are identified as compromised or recalled, the company states that they work to block the item from selling and remove it from store shelves.
They also point out that it is helpful to keep in mind the differences in date labeling when shopping for chilled or frozen items. The best-if-used-by date is meant to show when an item is at its peak quality, as suggested by the manufacturer. It is not necessarily a hard expiration date, but it serves as a guideline for consumers to judge the quality of the product they are purchasing. The use-by date is more specific to items that are time or temperature-sensitive.

Regardless of the label, the situation highlights the importance of checking packaging before consumption. That being said, Walmart has faced a lot of controversy around its food safety. In the past, social media posts have pointed out expired labels with food that is mysteriously fine. Other viral posts have also pointed out manufacturer errors, leading to adulterated snacks.
While the interaction in the video was heated, it serves as a reminder to consumers to stay vigilant about the items they pull from the shelf, especially when those items are meant for children. Dealing with spoiled food is always a hassle, and seeing it happen in a retail setting can certainly be an off-putting experience for any parent trying to run errands.
Not even past the expiration date. @Walmart y’all gotta do better for these babies.
