A North Ayrshire Council election candidate has been called out for 'vulgar' tweets.
Amanda Kerr is running as a Labour candidate in the seat of Ardrossan in this week's poll.
An old tweet from 2016 in which Kerr referred to 'taigs' recently resurfaced.
Scottish Conservative MSP for West Scotland, Pam Gosal, slammed Ms Kerr for the tweet.
She said: “Residents in Ardrossan will be appalled by the language Amanda Kerr has used in these tweets – this is far below the standards Scots expect of their elected representatives.
“Not only is Ms Kerr’s language completely inappropriate, but some of her comments are aggressive and intimidating.
“With social media being such a divisive space, politicians in particular have a responsibility to be respectful and use appropriate language.
“Scottish Labour must now urgently look into these offensive tweets, or risk sending the message that they condone this kind of language from their council candidates.”
The Labour hopeful has since apologised to the Scottish Catholic community.
She will also be required to complete 'equalities training'.
A Scottish Labour spokesman said: “These comments are completely unacceptable and the candidate has apologised unreservedly.
“Ms Kerr will be required to undergo appropriate equalities training.
“All of Scottish Labour’s candidates are committed to standing to represent the aims and values of the Scottish Labour Party and will be held to the highest standard.”
