The release of Jordan Peele’s hotly anticipated film Nope is just around the corner - and the final trailer has got us very excited indeed.
This morning the latest trailer was released and it’s a real extravaganza, introducing audiences to Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer (Hustlers, Alice) as Jill and James Haywood, a ranch-owning couple in the outback of California who start witnessing aliens and try to get it all on camera.
It’s Peele’s take on the alien genre, which means Nope is likely to be weirder, wilder and smarter than many of the usual extraterrestrial flicks – and judging by the trailer the director will absolutely be exceeding expectations.
The trailer has American Motown group The Undisputed Truth’s Ball of Confusion playing in the background of scarier scenes of looming threats in the sky, chases, horse riding, disappearing people, expansive views of the ranch and eerie blow-up happy tubes – all overlayed with spine-tingling chords.
“This dream you’re chasing. When you end up at the top of the mountain. It’s the one you never wake up from,” says an ominous voice.
Kaluuya and Palmer will be joined by cast members Steven Yeun (The Humans), Michael Wincott (Westworld, Ghost in the Shell), and Brandon Perea (Doom Patrol).
The first Nope trailer was released in February and gained over 22 million views. Now a short featurette has also been released. It shows Peele wandering around the sandy tundra and slow-motion behind the camera shots, interchanged with scenes from the film.
Even though it’s intended to give a glimpse of the film being made, that doesn’t stop the featurette from being kind of chilling too: there is a moody track playing in the background and somehow Peele’s cameras look like part of the sinister happenings on the ranch.
To accompany the final trailer and featurette release, Nope has also shared its character posters. With each character looking up at the sky, mouth agape and in some kind of shock, it really sets the scene for Peele’s latest film – his first since 2019.
Peele started his career as an actor, but it was his 2017 Get Out that catapulted Peele to stardom. The film was a massive success, making more than $255 million worldwide (on a $4.5 million budget) and winning over 88 awards including Best Original Screenplay at the 2018 Academy Awards. Since then Peele has directed the horror film Us.
Kaluuya‘s role in Get Out also super-charged his career, earning him his first Oscar nomination. The British actor went on to win a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for his 2021 role as Fred Hampton in Judas and the Black Messiah.
