A Michigan nonprofit that helps settle surprise medical bill disputes went from losing more than $2 million in 2022 to a profit margin of about 70% three years later, according to a STAT investigation published Oct. 19. The organization, iMPROve Health, is one of the arbitrators certified by the federal government under the No Surprises Act.
STAT reported that the 2022 loss equaled more than a third of the group's revenue. Since then, its revenue has grown about 13-fold.
