NOIDA: A 76-year-old Gautam Budh Nagar resident, who was undergoing treatment at a private facility for stomach ache and hematemesis and had also tested positive for Covid-19, succumbed on Tuesday after her health deteriorated due to the viral infection.
This is the seventh fatality related to the viral infection to be reported in the district this month even as the number of infections continued to be below the 100-mark.
A total of 489 Covid-related fatalities have been reported in the district since the outbreak of the pandemic two years back, of these 21 were recorded this year, officials said. On Tuesday, the district also added 70 new patients, down from 94 recorded a day back.
According to health officials, the septuagenarian was undergoing treatment for the past few days and had a history of Hepatitis B, liver cirrhosis, and hypertension. She died following health complications.
Ghaziabad, which has recorded 474 Covid-related deaths so far, has seen 13 deaths this year. Data obtained from the district health department shows most of these patients had comorbidities like diabetes, hypertension, heart ailments, liver and kidney infections. In some cases, patients were admitted to hospitals following complications due to comorbidities and breathlessness.
Of the 13 people who have succumbed since January, 11 were male, including a 28-year-old man suffering from pulmonary kochs, and 10 others who had comorbidities like diabetes, hypertension, cancer and pulmonary kochs. Another 17-year-old youth had complained of weakness, cough and had suffered cardio-pulmonary arrest, officials said.
On Tuesday, the district added 40 new cases. Currently, it has 293 cases, down from Monday’s 355.
Over 243 patients are in home isolation while 12 others are treated in different facilities. Four patients were discharged from the hospitals in the last 24 hours, officials said, adding that the recovery rate in the district was currently around 99% and sample positivity 0.69% with 5,800 tests conducted on the day.
In GB Nagar, which has 629 active cases, as many as 173 people recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours. A total of 7,572 people were administered the Covid vaccine in the district on Tuesday, while 15,341 were jabbed in Ghaziabad.
