You may not need woolen cloths this winter. A powerful El Niño is strengthening over the tropical Pacific, with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) warning that the climate phenomenon is likely to remain in place until February 2027. The latest forecast points to an exceptionally strong event, with ocean temperatures in the central and eastern Pacific already far above normal and expected to rise further in the coming months.
The warning comes at a time when extreme weather has already become a major concern across several parts of the world. From intense heat to heavy rain and floods, unusual weather patterns have repeatedly disrupted normal life this year.
