Toll fees will be waived on three expressways on Sunday, which is Chulalongkorn Memorial Day, to speed the movement of traffic during the three-day weekend.
The Expressway Authority of Thailand decided to waive fees on the Chalerm Mahanakorn tollway, which has 19 toll gates, Si Rat tollway (31 gates) and Udon Ratthaya tollway (10 gates) on Sunday, Suksomruay Wanthaneeyakul, secretary to Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob, said on Friday.
Motorists can use the three expressways free of charge on Sunday from 00.01am to midnight.
The exemption is aimed at facilitating travel and easing costs for people returning to their home province during the long public holiday, Ms Suksomruay said.
Sunday is Chulalongkorn Memorial Day, to mark the passing of His Majesty King Chulalongkorn (Rama V). Monday is the substitute government holiday.
