JAIPUR: BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Kirori Lal Meena has cancelled his July 10 rally on the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP) at Dausa due to lack of support from his party’s state unit.
Meena on June 23 announced a major rally against the Gehlot government’s failure to implement the ERCP through his social media accounts.
He claimed that Union Jal Shakti minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat would address the rally but later received cold response from the party leaders. It leaves Meena with no option but to cancel the rally as the party itself has hinted at holding a big rally on the issue.
“Meena during his meeting with Shekhawat in Delhi shared the idea of holding a meeting in Dausa on July 10. He persuaded him that party needs to aggressively pursue the project which will strengthen their poll prospects in the otherwise weak area for BJP,” said a BJP source.
During a meeting on ERCP by state BJP leaders on June 28, Shekhawat expressed his inability to attend the public address on July 10.
