No one enjoys being unemployed every three months, says Kunal Jaisingh

Kunal Jaisingh has replaced Mohit Kumar to play Anirban Banerjee in Durga Aur Charu. The former says that he had no apprehensions about taking over the role, as Mohit wasn’t a part of the show for a long time. Kunal adds, “He was a part of just four-five episodes. So, the character is quite fresh for me, and I can establish it in my way.”

In recent years, the small screen has become highly unpredictable with shows shutting down abruptly over the last few years. The actor whose last show, Muskuraane Ki Vajah Tum Ho, was pulled off air after a three-and-a-half month run, shares, “Who enjoys being unemployed after every three months (laughs!)? But the key to staying afloat is not to let it affect you. Surprisingly, some of my shows have worked better on the digital platform than the GEC. Unfortunately, such is the working of TV that even though a show could be trending on the digital platform, it would be pulled off air abruptly owing to poor ratings.”

While the fate of a show is governed by the ratings, talent should be kept away from these parametres. He says, “Talent should not be judged based on the ratings of a show. Several shows starring known faces may have failed in the TRP race, but that’s made a dent in their star value. Though I take the ratings of my show seriously as that’s an acknowledgment of the team’s efforts, I do not believe it is detrimental to an actor’s position in the industry.”
